Internal Medicine

Internal medicine covers a broad range of issues in horses. Generally it is for conditions affecting the major organ systems e.g. abdomen, respiratory system, heart, liver, kidneys. It can also include neurological conditions, foals and skin.

The abdomen is a common cause of problems in horses, ranging from an obvious colic episode, to more chronic issues like lethargy and weight loss. We have an ultrasound scanner with specific probes for scanning horses abdomens as well as the ability to combine with other diagnostics, to get as much of an insight to the abdominal environment as possible.

Cardiac issues in horses can be challenging to diagnose. At Endell we have ECG equipment as well as a cardiac probe for our ultrasound scanner to help work up these cases. Additionally, we sometimes employ the help of visiting specialists who specialise in cardiac cases for a more in depth case.

We have the ability to perform intradermal allergy skin testing - please arrange this in advance so we can order the required allergens for the test.
