There are many reasons why a horse may start coughing and diagnosis of the cause is the best way forward so the correct treatment can be started.

Some reasons your horse may cough are: 

• Viral infection
• Bacterial infection
• Allergies
• Parasites
• Aspiration of saliva and or food material following an episode of choke
• Tumours or foreign bodies 

Endoscopy and airway sampling are important tools used to achieve the necessary diagnosis and ultimately the best treatment.

What’s included in the Coughing Horse Package? 

• Full clinical examination of your horse or pony
• Endoscopy of the respiratory tract, performed under light sedation if necessary
• Tracheal wash to collect samples for bacterial culture and sensitivity and cytology
